Weekly Expression #15 ~ CK

"Anna,"
a whisper.
"Let me show you something,"
the voice was illusive, fleeting.
cautiously, i waited for any unformed words yet to follow, but none came.
you know it's not every day a girl is halted during her forest journey by a strange voice calling her name. maybe i need to get out more. this fresh air must get getting to me.
my riding boots traverse the spongy soil, sinking in to the earth newly released from winter's chains. the sunshine, flitting gracefully between tree branches, emits contagious laughter. i smile, watching the joyful fanfare above.
a muffled rustling interrupts my thoughts and i stop to listen.
when the ground succumbs to convulsions, however, i begin to panic.
a cropping of land several yards in diameter plummets beneath the earth and a frightened scream emerges from my lips, only to be dissolved by the chaos around me.
and then it stops.
above, an opening in the earth, where i had been just moments before, permits light to pass through. but within an instant, the crevice is closed.
now was the time to say something.
"Umm....excuse me! what is going on here? help! somebody?"
mere footsteps away stand two shadowy figures conversing quietly amongst themselves. the shorter, quirky looking one steps forward.
he peers around anxiously.
"Did you hear us calling you in the forest? i mean....you did hear us didn't you?"
his words are followed by a quizzical stare from perfectly spherical blue eyes much too large for his face.
"Uh, yeah. I mean, i think it was you at least. It's not exactly normal to run into strange voices in the woods."
"Well, then. She's the one, doctor."
he turns to his taller, dark haired friend looming over him.
"Now, Anna, you must listen to me carefully. we are running out of time, and our observations of your home planet have told us that you are the only one who can save us."
"Wait, save you? what...what are you talking about?"
"Shh, listen to me. our planet Lithios is dying and we need you to come with us."
he places his hands on my shoulders before continuing.
"We mean you no harm, Anna. But we need your help."
the seriousness of his gaze makes me consider his request.
"Ok, how can i help?"
suddenly, we are buoyed up, past the forest, until we are situated beneath a giant glowing orb.
"This is the planet that needs saving? it looks perfectly fine to me."
"No," he laughs. "This is our sister planet Niteo. But to fully understand the circumstances of our home planet, we must first journey here."
With a muscular swish of his arm, the tall, dark-haired man hurls me towards planet Niteo.
and as i fly through the air, all i can think of is,
"what in the world was i thinking?"
