Dreams
A poem by Joe Risitano
Wonderful fantasies of times gone by,
The future we see drawing nigh.
Our whimsical thoughts of the next,
Makes our hearts hard to be vexed.
We don't look further sometimes,
At which point there's no more reason with rhyme.
Simply, we are striving for the unreachable,
The ecstasy of a better world.
The hope for a new things to be discovered,
Greatness revealed, uncovered.
Beauty now shown throughout the darkest of places,
Exchanging hate for love in these empty spaces.
Drudgery begins to fade away,
The sky's the limit of stuff to be done, so they say.
Wandering further into the mist of new,
Marvelous happenings come into view.
Like cures for illnesses long thought could be not,
Subjects a blaze just ready to be taught.
Awesome craziness appears constantly,
Especially in a world where miracles happen simultaneously.
Oh my, the what's this,
Happening now in the blackened abyss.
The friendly sky has gone awry,
Thunderous clouds raise an eerie cry.
Loving stares turn hateful looks,
Dropping on you like shelves of falling books.
Running away,
You leave everything to escape the fray.
Closing in closer now,
it all seems hopeless.
Why? How?
Though, it seems,
It was all only dreams.

Authors Note: I'm horribly late. I ask everyone for forgiveness on this one. I'm really sorry.
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome!!! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Joe, this was amazing :) you're quite the poet!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the poem! this really put me in the fantasy mood. Just reading made me feel hopeful. Seemed like something I would hear at the beginning of a movie. My one bit of criticism would be that you should work on being more even and structural with the lines and rhythm. I kinda liked it, because it was out of the ordinary, but it may make it difficult for people to follow along. All in all, though I'd say it was an excellent work. I loved how the imagery was able to make me feel what you were describing. Keep it up!
